So much EXITING anime!! || Anime Wrap Up [#7]

If you have been following my blog for a while, then you will know that I do these Anime Wrap Ups from time to time. Usually I wait until I finish at least 5 anime before doing one of these. My last one was in February, so it’s been quiet a while – I just haven’t been watching that much anime lately. (I just recently got back to watching it again.)

Anyway, onto the anime that I recently watched!

AnimeKono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2

Episodes: 10

Adventure | Comedy | Fantasy

My rating: 6/10 (Fine)

When Kazuma Satou died, he was given two choices: pass on to heaven or be revived in a fantasy world. After choosing the new world, the goddess Aqua tasked him with defeating the Demon King, and let him choose any weapon to aid him. Unfortunately, Kazuma chose to bring Aqua herself and has regretted the decision ever since then.

Not only is he stuck with a useless deity turned party archpriest, the pair also has to make enough money for living expenses. To add to their problems, their group continued to grow as more problematic adventurers joined their ranks. Their token spellcaster, Megumin, is an explosion magic specialist who can only cast one spell once per day and refuses to learn anything else. There is also their stalwart crusader, Lalatina “Darkness” Dustiness Ford, a helpless masochist who makes Kazuma look pure in comparison.

My thoughts:

This anime was a bit of a disappointment for me. I watched the first seasons a few months ago and, even though I didn’t completely love it, I enjoyed it greatly. Don’t get me wrong, the second season was fun and the humour from the first season was there as well. BUT it just felt as if the whole anime had no direction, no clear path as to where it was going with it’s story. I really don’t know how to explain that better. I just didn’t enjoy it as much as the first season. (Though I will definitely watch the next season, when it comes out.)

Would I recommend this anime?

I would definitely recommend the first season of this anime! While it’s not one of my favourite anime a lot of people completely adore it – so I would at least give it a try. It’s one of those anime where the main character gets stuck in a fantasy world, but this one makes fun of that trope in the best way possible – so if you enjoy that kind of anime I would definitely recommend it.

AnimeAo no Exorcist: Kyoto Saga

Episodes: 12

Action | Supernatural | Fantasy

My rating: 8/10 (Very Good)

The ExWire of True Cross Academy are beset with shock and fear in the aftermath of discovering that one of their own classmates, Rin Okumura, is the son of Satan. But for the moment, they have more pressing concerns than that of Rin’s parentage: the left eye of the Impure King, a powerful demon, has been stolen from the academy’s Deep Keep. After an attempt is made to steal the right eye in Kyoto as well, Rin and the other ExWires are sent to investigate the mystery behind the Impure King and the ultimate goal of the thief.

While this mission has them cooperating for the time being, Rin has never felt more distant from his fellow exorcists. In his attempt to reconcile with them, he undergoes specialized training to control his dark power. However, when the right eye is stolen not long after their arrival, the unthinkable threat of a traitor amongst them leaves them in need of all the power they can get.

My thoughts:

I really enjoyed this season of Ao No Exorcist! I have been reading the manga for a while now, so I was very exited when they announced that there would be a second season of this anime! (I didn’t think they would be making another, as the first season aired in 2011.) I’m beyond happy that they made this arc of the manga into an anime, as it is one of my favourites. We got a lot more development with this seasons, to various characters but also to the world their live in. I loved the character development that Rin got within this arc! He is definitely one of my favourite characters from this anime.

Would I recommend this anime?

Well, to watch this one you would have to watch the first season first. Honestly, I don’t remember how well done it was. I do remember that I enjoyed it a lot, but I watched it years ago so I’m not sure on the specific bits. Still, I would definitely recommend you give it a try! (Or read the manga, which is fantastic!) The ending of the first season was anime original, so don’t get confused by that if you decide to watch it.

AnimeSenyuu. and Senyuu. 2

Episodes: 13 per season

Action | Comedy | Parody

My rating:

7/10 (Good) – first season

8/10 (Very Good) – second season

Once upon a time, the demon lord Rchimedes spread terror throughout the world, until he was eventually sealed away by the legendary hero Creasion. Since then, a thousand years have passed peacefully. However, a mysterious hole has opened up between the demon and human spheres, and countless demons have surged into the human realm once more. Coming to the conclusion that Rchimedes would soon return to wreak havoc, a human king summons the possible descendants of the legendary hero—all 75 of them. Unfortunately, after so long, it was too difficult to pinpoint his true descendants.

Among the lionhearted prospects is the amateur adventurer Alba Frühling. His skills may not be top-notch, but he is accompanied by the talented soldier Ross, who helps the young hero whenever he is in a pinch…or at least, he is supposed to. Though undoubtedly a skilled warrior, Ross is actually both sarcastic and sadistic, and hence revels in Alba’s suffering.

(Summary taken from MyAnimeList.)

My thoughts:

This was such a fun little anime! And by little I mean that each episode was only around 4 minutes long. I had heard many great things about it from people whose opinions I trust, so I decided to watch it. It definitely wan’t a mistake!! This was such a good anime and I ended up enjoying it a lot. The story is very cleverly done and I liked the characters a lot. The second season was even better than the first! (I definitely NEED another season!) I really hope they make more seasons of this anime in the future.

Would I recommend this anime?

Definitely yes!! It’s very short, so it wouldn’t require that much commitment. And it’s a fun story, with great humour and interesting characters. So why in the world wouldn’t you at least check it out?

81473lYoujo Senki

Episodes: 12

Military | Magic

My rating: 8/10 (Very Good)

Tanya Degurechaff is a young soldier infamous for predatorial-like ruthlessness and an uncanny, tactical aptitude, earning her the nickname of the “Devil of the Rhine.” Underneath her innocuous appearance, however, lies the soul of a man who challenged Being X, the self-proclaimed God, to a battle of wits—which resulted in him being reincarnated as a little girl into a world of magical warfare. Hellbent on defiance, Tanya resolves to ascend the ranks of her country’s military as it slowly plunges into world war, with only Being X proving to be the strongest obstacle in recreating the peaceful life she once knew. But her perceptive actions and combat initiative have an unintended side effect: propelling the mighty Empire into becoming one of the most powerful nations in mankind’s history.

(Summary taken from MyAnimeList.)

My thoughts:

Youjo Senki was such a fascinating anime! As soon as I saw the trailers for this anime I knew that I had to watch it. The premise of it sounded very interesting as well. There have been quiet a few reincarnation anime in the past, but this one was unique in many ways and I enjoyed that a lot. Youjo Senki has an interesting art style as well, it took me a bit to get used to it – but I ended up loving it, Tanya’s animations were especially well done. Speaking of Tanya, she was such an interesting characters and I loved learning more about her as the anime progressed. I HOPE that there will be another season of this anime sometime in the future!

Would I recommend this anime?

Yes, I would definitely recommend it. Youjo Senki is a fascinating anime and one that definitely took me by surprise. (Both with its story and how much I enjoyed it.) This anime is quiet dialog heavy and has a lot of talk about military strategies. So if you dislike that, then I really wouldn’t recommend it. Otherwise definitely give it a try!

Episodes: 12

Action | Comedy | Historical | Sci-Fi

My rating: 10/10 (Masterpiece)

This is the 5th season of Gintama.

Here is a summary for the 1st season:

The Amanto, aliens from outer space, have invaded Earth and taken over feudal Japan. As a result, a prohibition on swords has been established, and the samurai of Japan are treated with disregard as a consequence.

However one man, Gintoki Sakata, still possesses the heart of the samurai, although from his love of sweets and work as a yorozuya, one might not expect it. Accompanying him in his jack-of-all-trades line of work are Shinpachi Shimura, a boy with glasses and a strong heart, Kagura with her umbrella and seemingly bottomless stomach, as well as Sadaharu, their oversized pet dog. Of course, these odd jobs are not always simple, as they frequently have run-ins with the police, ragtag rebels, and assassins, oftentimes leading to humorous but unfortunate consequences.

My thoughts:

I loved this latest season of Gintama! If you have watched this season, or the previous one, you know how serious and tense things have gotten. Each episode kept me at the edge of my seat! So much has happened during this series and it’s fascinating seeing everything come together. We also get to learn more about each characters motivation and their pasts, which was beyond amazing! The humour, as always with this anime, is on point. Gintama is one of my all time favourite anime, I simply adore it. This season is also one of my favourites that have aired so far. (I need to start reading the manga soon.)

Would I recommend this anime?

I would definitely recommend Gintama! Why wouldn’t I, it’s one of my all time favourite anime. Though if you are only starting with anime, I wouldn’t recommend this one. Why? Because it parodies a lot of other anime and makes references that you wouldn’t understand – and I have a feeling that you wouldn’t get the full experience because of that. But if you have watched some anime already, I would HIGHLY recommend this one! (Or rather the first season of this one.)

AnimeSailor Moon Crystal

Episodes: 26

Magic | Romance | Shoujo

My rating: 7/10 (Good)

Though a little clumsy and easily brought to tears, Usagi Tsukino is a typical 14-year-old girl in her second year of junior high. However, all of that changes when an encounter with Luna, a mysterious talking black cat, whose head bears the mark of a crescent moon, results in the animal bestowing a magical brooch upon her. Now Usagi can transform into Sailor Moon, a magical girl in a sailor uniform who protects love and peace!

Usagi is appointed as a guardian of justice and is tasked with the search for the legendary Silver Crystal, a magical artifact that holds immense power, as well as finding the other Sailor Guardians and the lost princess of Luna’s home, the Moon Kingdom. Her mission isn’t without opposition, however; Queen Beryl, ruler of the Dark Kingdom, wants to claim the Silver Crystal and take its power for her own.

Though she still has to worry about her school, family, and love life, it is up to Sailor Moon and the other Sailor Guardians to save the day!

(Summary taken from MyAnimeList.)

My thoughts:

This is a remake of the original Sailor Moon anime. (It aired during 2014 and 2015.) I decided to watch this purely for nostalgia reasons. I talked about the original one with a friend recently and then I remembered that they made this remake and I knew that I had to watch it.

It was a good anime. Nothing too mind blowing or anything like that. Not that I expected it to be, as I was already familiar with the story. It was simply great being back in this world with the characters from my childhood. The animation was really good and it was great seeing the scenes in a “better quality”. The transformations were a bit weird thought, as they were in 3D while the rest of the anime is the usual 2D. I got used to it after a while, but it was definitely weird seeing it the first few times. (Just look up the transformations and you’ll know what I mean.) And I forgot how annoying Usagi was – she frustrated me a lot throughout the anime, so I had to mention it!

Would I recommend this anime?

I would definitely recommend Sailor Moon Crystal. It was a fun anime, that reminded me how much I loved the original one when I was little. If you already love Sailor Moon, then definitely check out this remake version. And if you have never seen Sailor Moon give it a chance! (Though I do think that the original one was better, but that might be the nostalgia talking.)

Have you watched any of these anime? What did you think of them? Do you plan on watching any of them? Do let me know in the comments below!

Thank you very much for reading and I hope that you have an amazing day!

  1. This is so much fun! I haven’t really gotten into new anime for a few years now. This is just the jumpstart I need to get back in it! I totally want to see Sailor Moon Crystal — my understanding is that the remake stayed really true to the original. On this list, I am most intrigued to start Senyuu (4-minute episodes?! How can they even do that?!) and Gintama (So much gushing!). The real question is how do I locate them to watch… Hm.

    1. I love anime! I have watched since I was a little girl and never really stopped. (Not counting the times when I take a little break from it.) Yes, Sailor Moon Crystal stayed true to the original – as far as I remember that is, it’s been a long time since I have seen the original. I really didn’t know how they would do Senyuu either, but it surprised me in the best way. Gintama is one of my favourite anime ever, so I can only recommend it! 😀
Well, I think Crunchyroll and Funimation have all of them. Those are, however, paid services. You can easily locate some sites where you can watch them for free, there are quiet a few out there – just look for “watch anime online free” and you should find some. 🙂

    1. I can see why you wouldn’t like KonoSuba. As it’s the case with any comedy series, they are just not for everyone. I did mostly enjoy it, but it’s not one of my favourites. I can only recommend all of them!! They were all amazing! 😀 Thank you!!
