Where in the world did this month go?! || November 2017 Wrap Up

Monthly Wrap Up Green

I honestly have no idea where this month went! The time passed by way too fast (faster than usually at least). I guess it’s understandable since November is usually one of my busiest months. University usually picks up around that time a lot and I have some exams and papers to write. This year wasn’t an exception to that.Β Still, I was in a good mood most of the month and I had a lot of fun in between my assignments. I ended up reading a lot more than I thought I would and I saw a lot of my friends (which is always amazing). All in all November was a rather successful month for me and I’m very happy with how everything was!

Wrap Up

This month I managed to finish 4 books. Not going to lie, I’m very happy about that! This year I haven’t been reading as much as I usually do, (not even close to my usual amount) so finishing this many books in a month is great for me! It appears that I’m getting back into reading once more, which makes me really happy! πŸ˜€ Especially since I have many exiting books on my TBR pile that I can’t wait to get to!

Anne RiceInterview with the Vampire (The Vampire Chronicles #1) by Anne Rice

4 out of 5 stars

This was actually a reread for me. I decided to start it last month, right before Halloween, as I wanted a book to put me in a spooky kind of mood. While this book isn’t scary it’s rather atmospheric and fits this time of the year.Β I had a lot of fun getting back into the story and reading about all of these characters again.

I had forgotten how slow the first part of this book is. That wasn’t something that bothered me too much, I just thought I should mention it. I need to pick up the second book in this series soon, I just really want to read from Lestat’s point of view.

Crossroads of CanopyCrossroads of Canopy (Titan’s Forest #1) by Thoraiya Dyer

1 out of 5 star

I really didn’t like this book. My biggest problem with this story is the main character, Unar. She is one of the most dislikable protagonists that I have ever read about! She was so childish and got angry at the most idiotic things possible. She was also very prejudiced and rude.

Another problem that I encountered was that Unar kept constantly thinking about sex and who she wants to sleep with (I’m not kidding, it felt as if 90 % of the book was about that). I’m asexual and reading all of that made me beyond uncomfortable.

I have a full review for this book, which is linked down below, if you are interested in more of my thoughts.

Sorcery for BeginnersSorcery for Beginners (Codex Arcanum #1) by Matt Harry and illustrated by Juliane Crump

2.5 out of 5 stars

I have quiet a few mixed feelings about this book. On one hand I enjoyed certain aspects of it, on the other some things frustrated me.Β  For some reason I couldn’t get into the writing.Β The writing in general just didn’t impress me much, it was simply all right. I couldn’t connect to any of the characters either, which made me not that interested in the actual story. I just felt that this book wasn’t for me, I think I’m just too old for it.

I have a full review for this book, which is linked down below, if you are interested in more of my thoughts.

Because You Love To Hate MeBecause You Love To Hate Me

3 out of 5 stars

I expected a lot from this short story collections, especially since I love villains and morally grey characters. They tend to be some of my all time favourite. Some of the stories lived up to my expectations and I really enjoyed them, but some (and that is the majority of them) fell flat for me in one way or another.

I plan on writing a full review for this anthology, where I will review each story individually. So if you want to know more of my thoughts you can look forward to that! (I just need to gather my thoughts and put them down first.)

    1. Ahh, it’s really too bad that your month didn’t end that greatly! Assignments are seriously the worst, especially when you have no time to read because of them. I hope you enjoy Because You Love to Hate Me, there are some really great stories there. I also hope that December will be a better month for you! πŸ™‚

    1. It really was a great month! πŸ™‚ I haven’t actually read any fae novels before (or I don’t remember any), so I don’t know if I like them. I think I will read An Enchantment of Ravens first – as that one sounds amazing – but I will keep Mad Magic in mind for later. πŸ™‚ Thank you!! I hope you have a wonderful December as well!

  1. I feel like you could use the title of this post as a series for every wrap up, it’s catchy and very appropriate!
I’ve been told that I should read Interview with a Vampire and that I would like it; I’m glad to see you liked it and reread it! It looks like you had a good month! πŸ™‚

    1. Haha, I agree! Time does pass by very fast and I have a feeling this year especially.
I would definitely recommend Interview with a Vampire, it’s a really good book! (Though I like the second book in the series more.) November was a really good month for me! πŸ™‚

  2. It’s exciting to see that you were able to read that many books despite being so busy. I question how you did it. Sorcery? Dark magic? Selling your soul to the book gods? Tell me your ways! XD

  3. I don’t know where November went either- totally whizzed by. *Interview with a Vampire is great for a spooky read, but yeah, it’s a little slow. Lestat is fun- I hope you enjoy that book too! And I’m really curious for your review of Because you love to hate me now πŸ˜€ Great post!

    1. Yeah, November basically disappeared. I thought so too, that’s why I decided to read it for Halloween. I actually like the second book more, since Lestat is my favourite character in that series! πŸ˜€ So I’m sure that I will enjoy it. Thank you!! πŸ™‚

  4. I was a bit disappointed by because you love to hate me too, some of the villains weren’t really like villains at all. I did like some of the stories though! I think my favourite was Marissa Meyer’s story.
Hope you have a great December πŸ™‚

    1. I agree. I just expected something more from some of the stories, they just didn’t impress me completely. Though I agree that some were really good! Marissa Meyer’s story is one of my favourites as well. πŸ˜€ Thank you, I hope you have a great December as well.

  5. I am glad you had a good month! I am not saying November was bad for me, but definitely not as great. Somehow I was in a life slump for part of it hahaha Anyway, I only read the first short story from Because You Love to Hate Me and then I stopped for a bit. Now my book is on a ship from Canada to Europe, sooooo … I can’t read anything now. I can definitely see the stories not being all amazing though.

    1. Oh no, It’s too bad that your November wasn’t the best. Oh I completely get being in a life slump – I was like that in August and September, it’s seriously the worst! Well, Because You Love to Hate Me isn’t that much of a priority read, since the stories aren’t connected. It would probably be worse waiting on a regular book that you started and want to know how it continues! I hope you have an amazing December! ❀

      1. I had to send a lot of books back from Vancouver, just because I didn’t have the room in my luggage. There’s nothing pressing in it, I had enough backlisted back in Vienna anyway haha
I hope you have an amazing December as well!! ❀

  6. Glad to hear you had a good November. πŸ˜€ I agree, it really did go by insanely fast. Hard to believe it’s already December. I really should re-read Interview with the Vampire some time. It’s been a very long time since I read it and I was pretty young at the time. It’d be interesting to re-read it as an adult. πŸ™‚

    1. Yeah, I’m really happy with how November went! πŸ˜€ I seriously can’t believe the end of the year is nearing so fast! This whole year has passed by unbelievably fast. I would definitely recommend rereading Interview with the Vampire! I hope you end up enjoying it, if you decide to read it! πŸ˜€
