Top Five Wednesday is a weekly meme created by Lainey @GingerReadsLainey and she has passed down the torch to Sam @ThoughtsOnTomes. For more information and for future topics you can check out the goodreads group.

It was actually very easy to pick my favourite books of this year. That is not something that EVER happens to me, as I’m very indecisive when it comes to things like favourites.  (Obviously I was very surprised by this!) So why was it easy this time around?

  • I haven’t read that much this year. This year I have only read around 30 books, while I usually read at least 70 (or I had read at least that much the past few years).
  • I also haven’t read that many 5 star books. Apparently this year I didn’t pick up many books that I completely adored.
With that said, lets get into my favourite books of 2017!

Eragon

5. Eldest (The Inheritance Cycle #2) by Christopher Paolini

If you know me, then you know that I adore dragons! So, I obviously had to read this series. I read Eragon (the first book in the series) last year and completely loved it. Eldest was an amazing sequel. We got a lot more information about the world this story takes place in, which was wonderful (world-building is one of my favourite aspects of fantasy books). I loved reading more about Eragon and Saphira and seeing them grow, both as individuals and as partners. This was such a good book and I can’t wait to continue reading this series!

Cormoran Strike

4. Career of Evil (Cormoran Strike #3) by Robert Galbraith

Career of Evil has definitely been the best book in the Cormoran Strike series so far. Don’t get me wrong, I have loved all of the books but this third one was just on another level. The mystery was interesting, the story compelling and I already love and care about Cormoran and Robin (the main characters, if you weren’t aware) – so I obviously wanted to read more about them. This book gave us also a lot of background information on both characters, which was simply amazing. The fourth book can’t come out soon enough, I need it in my life!

Shadowhunters

3. The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson

Magnus Bane is one of my all time favourite characters and I knew that I had to read these short stores as soon as I heard about them. (I’m reading The Mortal Instruments only because of him.) I just loved reading from his perspective and learning more about him. I have always wondered about his life and adventures, so getting to read about some of them was amazing! I enjoyed all of the stories, some were slower some action packed, but each was charming in their own way. Magnus Bane is just the best!

The Forbidden Wish

2. The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury

If you have been following my blog at all during this year you would know about this book, as I have been raving about it for a while now. The Forbidden Wish is one of the best books that I have ever read, not just this year. The world and magic were fascinating and unlike anything I read before (which was rather refreshing). Aladding and Zahra are two of the best characters that I have ever read about, I ADORE both of them sooo much! The romance in this book was slow burning and wonderful. This is simply a beautiful book!

Victoria Schwab

1. A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic #1) by V.E. Schwab

A Darker Shade of Magic was actually the first book that I read this year and definitely my favourite. Victoria Schwab is one of my all time favourite authors and so far I have LOVED everything that I read by her. (Obviously this was no exception.) I loved the world that Schwab created within this book, it fascinated me from page one and I wanted to know more about it. The characters and story were amazing as well, especially Kell who is definitely my favourite from this book. I can’t wait to continue reading this series and seeing where the story will go!

What were some of your favourite books of 2017?

Thank you very much for reading and I hope that you have a wonderful day!

  1. Aw, I haven’t read any of the books on your list but A Darker Shade of Magic is definitely something I want to read soon! I actually haven’t thought about my favorite books for this year, but an amazing book that I read recently was actually a picture book called The Fog by Kyo Maclear and Kenard Pak! It was the first picture book I read in awhile, but the theme about how fog can easily cloud the sight of our passions reminded me to spend more time on my passions again. I would definitely recommend it — and it’s a short read, too! 😋 I enjoyed reading your post, and I hope you find some good books soon!

    1. Well, I (obviously) highly recommend all of them! 😀 All are such amazing books! A Darker Shade of Magic is fantastic, I hope you get around to it soon and that you will end up loving it as well. It really sounds interesting, I will definitely check it out. Plus it’s been a long time since I read a picture book. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed my post! 🙂

  2. Ooh I loved Eldest too! Happy to see it made your favourites list. And same with me, if a book has dragons in it, I’m there. I haven’t read A Darker Shade of Magic yet but I’m dying to. Hopefully I’ll get to it in 2018 because I know it’ll be a favourite for me. Loved this!

  3. Hi Anna! I need to read The Forbidden Wish this next year… how GREAT it was one of the best books you have EVER read! That’s high praise girl! And I finished A Darker Shade of Magic this year too… I was in a reading slump and didn’t get into it as much as I’d have liked to but the world building is INCREDIBLE and I need to keep reading the series! ❤

    1. Hey Dani! 😀 You definitely need to read The Forbidden Wish, it’s such a fantastic book! (Yes, I’m giving it ALL the praise!!) Reading slumps are seriously the worst. I LOVE the world building that Victoria Schwab does and A Darker Shade of Magic was no exception to that. I can’t wait to continue the series either! ❤

  4. I love the Eragon series! I haven’t read The Bane Chronicles but I saw him in The Infernal Devices Series and I really loved him. I would love to read a book about him! A Darker shade of Magic was okay to me. The V.E Schwab book I really like is This Savage Song

    1. Eragon is seriously amazing! I can’t wait to continue the series. I fell in love with Magnus Bane in TID as well, he is simply the best. And I highly recommend The Bane Chronicles, they were seriously amazing. Too bad that you didn’t love ADSOM as much as I did.
