Autumn is FINALLY Here!! || August 2018 Wrap Up

Monthly Wrap Up Green

I changed my icon, side and blog image because I got bored with my previous one. Plus, I think this one suits my blog much better! (As it features a red haired girl reading a book, which applies to me as well.) I just wanted to give you all a heads up about that. The beautiful artwork is by the talented @IrenHorrors and I definitely recommend checking her out! (Especially if you like dark and gothic art.)

Also, if you click on the image (on the side of my blog) it will take you to the full illustration.

August was a weird month for me. It was neither the best month, nor the worst, rather it was just average. I was in a strange mood nearly all month and the weather didn’t help with that. It was horrible, by which I mean that it was waaaaay too hot to function and I felt lethargic nearly all month. My mental health wasn’t the best either, so there is that as well. I’m just glad that August is over now and that the weather has FINALLY cooled down (I’m loving it at the moment).

The highlight of my month was definitely my parents visit. I hadn’t seen either of them in a few months, so catching up with them and just spending time with each other was amazing! I have a great relationship with both of my parents, so naturally I always enjoy the time we spend with each other. We only spent one day together, as they had to travel, but it was a wonderful day and I had a lot of fun.

Aside from that August wasn’t that special. Nothing really stands out that I feel like mentioning. I’m just really happy that autumn is starting! (I consider autumn to be September, October and November.) Now, lets get into the books that I read in August.

Wrap Up

This was an all right reading month for me. I didn’t end up reading as much as last month, but I did read 3 books in total which makes me happy. Especially since they were all rather long books and I managed to finally finish The Mortal Instruments series.

Overall, I’m pleased with how much I read this month, though it definitely could have been more.

ShadowhuntersCity of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

3.5 out of 5 stars

I have mentioned before that I love the “side characters” in this series. I’m putting that in quotations because it can be argued that Magnus, Alec, Simon and Izzy have become main characters as well. I ADORE those four and we got a lot of them in this book, which was wonderful.

The plot of this book was very interesting. It was definitely A LOT better than in the previous book. Though I have to say that I found half of the book frustrating to read (because of the characters).

If you are interested in more of my thoughts, check out my review for this book!

ShadowhunterCity of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

4.5 out of 5 stars

City of Heavenly Fire was a really fun book to read. It’s definitely my favourite in the series, even though I had some problems with it as well. The plot of this book was fascinating and I was at the edge of my seat while reading this book. I couldn’t put it down, I just needed to know what was going to happen next!

This book was a rather good finale for the series. Some of the revelations and things that happened in the end make me really exited to read Lady Midnightin the future.

If you are interested in more of my thoughts, check out my review for this book!

Marissa MeyerCress by Marissa Meyer

5 out of 5 stars

This was by far the best book that I read in August. As you may already know, I really like The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. This past month I finally decided to continue reading this series. Cress was such an amazing book and I loved every second of it. So far it’s definitely my favourite in the series!

I have come to adore the world of this series and all the characters so much! I can’t wait to get my hands on Winter and read it as well. Hopefully I’ll be able to do that soon!

I’ll be posting a review for this book soon, so look out for that if you are interested in more of my thoughts.

Wrap Up

Blogging really wasn’t my forte in August. I just never felt like working on any blog posts and I ended up putting up only 4 posts (I only linked 3, as the 4th one is my last monthly wrap up and I don’t link those). That is also the reason that this wrap up is a bit late, if you count the 7th as late. But I’m FINALLY feeling like blogging again so there is that as well. Hopefully September will be better in regards of blogging, though we shall see as I’ll be very busy with studying for exams and working (my job starts near the end of the month).

How was your August? Did you end up reading something exiting? Are you looking forward to autumn? Let me know in the comments below!

Thank you very much for reading and I hope that you have a wonderful day!

  1. Aw, I’m sorry to hear August was kind of meh! I totally get your aversion to heat, it made me want to stay indoors all summer too :/ WHY WAS IT SO DAMN HOT??? I feel like it definitely made me less productive, which wasn’t good at all. Everyone around me is always moaning about winter being back and I’m just over the moon!

It’s so sweet that you get along so well with your parents 🙂 Most people have an all right relationship with theirs but you genuinely seem like the type of person who’s best friends with them, which is really cool. Too bad they had to leave so soon!

I love Cress to pieces, as I do Winter. Cinder is my least favourite, but not bad by any means. Now, Scarlet remains my absolute precious and I have yet to change my mind.

Glad to hear you’ve managed to read so many books! And that they were quite good too! It’s always a given when that happens hahaha Awesome post, Anna ❤

    1. Heat is seriously the worst. I wanted to stay indoors all the time as well, sadly I couldn’t do that. :/ When it’s that hot I usually do all the work I need in the evening/night. During the day I’m just useless. SAME!! I’m so glad that autumn is finally here and that the weather is cooling down. 😀
My parents are amazing! They do feel like best friends to me. We talk about anything and everything. I just love spending time with them! ❤ Though we do have our ups and downs as well, I'm just really grateful that I have such wonderful parents. 🙂
Cress is wonderful! She is definitely my favourite character so far. I love Scarlet as well, but there is something about Cress that I just adore. I also like Cinder a lot and I have a feeling I'll like Winter as well (from the glimpses that I have gotten from her so far). This series is just sooo amazing! 😀
      Thank you Sophie!! ❤

      1. Oh great strategy! I’ll be sure to try to do that next summer, but unfortunately it’s not always possible… Ugh
That’s lovely to hear 🙂 Most parents should be like that, and still manage to be parents too! I guess it’s hard to have a balance but it’s not impossible.
You’ll absolutely love Winter, I think! She’s got a lot of great qualities but also flaws/insecurities that make one want to hug her to death. Much like most of Meyer’s heroines, after all.
        You’re very welcome ❤ ❤

  2. Yay! Another Autumn fan! I’m so excited for the cooler weather. It’s been such a hot summer, so I totally get that lethargic feeling you mentioned. I’m so ready for some light breezes and warm colors on the leaves.

It’s so lovely that you have a great relationship with your parents. That’s always a wonderful thing to experience. And I love all your reads last month! I love TMI, though some installments in the series were a little worse than others. Magnus, Alec, Izzy, and Simon are my favorite characters too! I don’t mind Jace and Clary, but I’m always more excited when either of the four secondary characters is on the page. And yes!!! I’m so glad you loved Cress. I loved it too! It’s my favorite of the series so far. I have yet to read Winter but I just loved Cress and Thorne. They were so adorable ❤

Great post! I hope your September is proving to be a happy month of reading and fun so far! 😀

    1. Autumn is amazing! I’m so happy that the weather is finally cooling down, I seriously can’t stand the heat. And this summer has been too hot, though it doesn’t help that I mostly wear black! 😀
I’m really blessed to have such a great relationship with my parents! ❤
I'm glad that you enjoyed all the books I read in August! 😀 TMI are great, but I do agree that some instalments are worse than others. Still, I enjoyed reading the series overall. Those four characters are just amazing!! Hahaha, it's great that you don't mind Jace and Clary, reading about them was really hard sometimes. 😀 Cress was sooo amazing and I can't wait to read Winter as well. The Lunar Chronicles is such a good series.
Thank you! ❤ I hope September has been great for you (as I'm replying really late, sorry). 🙂

      1. LOL, right there with you. Nearly impossible to find something other than black or grey in my wardrobe, which certainly doesn’t help to combat the heat. But it’s definitely been cooling down some. Now I’m just waiting for the rain to come 😀

Jace and Clary CAN be really frustrating (and weird) at times. I’d much rather read about Simon or Magnus though lol. I hope that Winter proves just as amazing for you! 😀
And September was fantastic! Hope it was for you. And I hope your October is going well so far as well! 💕

  3. I can relate to some months being ho-hum. August felt that way for me, too! I wonder if it was just all the heat? Perhaps. XD I’m so glad to see you’re continuing to read The Lunar Chronicles! Do you plan on finishing the series soon? I am super curious to see what you think of it as a full series. 🙂 Good luck in September!

    1. Hahaha, it’s probably the heat! 😀 The Lunar Chronicles is such an amazing series. I would like to read Winter before the end of the year, I just need to get my hands on it first. And I’ll definitely be doing a review for the book once I read it. 🙂 Thank you! ❤
