Waiting on Wednesday: The Starless Sea

Waiting on Wednesday was originally created by Jill @Breaking The Spine. This is a weekly feature that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

Erin Morgenstern

Publication date: 5. November 2019

Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a mysterious book hidden in the stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood. Bewildered by this inexplicable book and desperate to make sense of how his own life came to be recorded, Zachary uncovers a series of clues–a bee, a key, and a sword–that lead him to a masquerade party in New York, to a secret club, and through a doorway to an ancient library, hidden far below the surface of the earth.

What Zachary finds in this curious place is more than just a buried home for books and their guardians–it is a place of lost cities and seas, lovers who pass notes under doors and across time, and of stories whispered by the dead. Zachary learns of those who have sacrificed much to protect this realm, relinquishing their sight and their tongues to preserve this archive, and also those who are intent on its destruction.

This is actually my first time participating in Waiting on Wednesday. I had contemplated doing this feature for a while now, but for some reason I haven’t until now. (I have no idea why I waited this long?) Hopefully I will be doing many more posts in the future! Anyway, let’s talk about The Starless Sea now!

As this is my first time participating in this feature I picked my most anticipated book of the year for this weeks post. As you may know, The Night Circus is one of my all time favourite books. I read it for the first time years ago and completely fell in love with it. Erin Morgenstern has a gorgeous writing style and I want to read anything she writes. When I heard that she was coming out with a second book I knew I had to read it, no matter what it was about. The Starless Sea sounds like an amazing book and I can’t wait to get my hands on it and read it!

Are you looking forward to The Starless Sea? Let me know in the comments below!

Thank you very much for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day!

  1. I haven’t read Night Circus yet as it doesn’t sound like something I would necessarily enjoy but I LOVE the premise of this book and am actually pretty excited for it! The cover is stunning as well ❤ Great post! I like the idea of Waiting on Wed 🙂
