Waiting on Wednesday: Winterwood

Waiting on Wednesday was originally created by Jill @Breaking The Spine. This is a weekly feature that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.

Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw

Shea ErnshawPublication date: 5. November 2019

Be careful of the dark, dark wood…Especially the woods surrounding the town of Fir Haven. Some say these woods are magical. Haunted, even.

Rumoured to be a witch, only Nora Walker knows the truth. She and the Walker women before her have always shared a special connection with the woods. And it’s this special connection that leads Nora to Oliver Huntsman—the same boy who disappeared from the Camp for Wayward Boys weeks ago—and in the middle of the worst snowstorm in years. He should be dead, but here he is alive, and left in the woods with no memory of the time he’d been missing.

But Nora can feel an uneasy shift in the woods at Oliver’s presence. And it’s not too long after that Nora realises she has no choice but to unearth the truth behind how the boy she has come to care so deeply about survived his time in the forest, and what led him there in the first place. What Nora doesn’t know, though, is that Oliver has secrets of his own—secrets he’ll do anything to keep buried, because as it turns out, he wasn’t the only one to have gone missing on that fateful night all those weeks ago.

Last year I read Shea Ernshaw’s debut novel The Wicked Deep and I completely adored it. If you want to know more of my thoughts on The Wicked Deep you can check out my review. Anyway, ever since I hear that Ernshaw was coming out with another book I knew that I had to read it! The Wicked Deep was such an atmospheric book and I’m hoping that Winterwood will be as well. I just adore atmospheric books!

A “trope” that I adore in books is magical (and creepy) woods. Which, as you can tell by the summary, is going to be an spect of this story and I couldn’t be more exited about it! The synopsis for Winterwood sounds very intriguing and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy, once it comes out! Hopefully I’m going to enjoy it equally as much as I enjoyed The Wicked Deep, or even more! (The cover for this book looks very pretty as well, I love the colour combination.)

Are you looking forward to Winterwood? Let me know in the comments below!

Thank you very much for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day!

  1. I need to read The Wicked Deep! Sounds like the perfect October read 🙂 Also, if you love magical/creepy woods I suggest you try The Devouring Gray – it’s like Raven Cycle meets Riverdale meets Stranger Things (I have personally not read it but I’ve seen it everywhere)

    1. I loved The Wicked Deep when I read it last year, so I would highly recommend it! 😀 The Devouring Gray is already on my TBR and I’m very exited to read it some time in the future, it sounds like a book that I would really enjoy. Thank you for the recommendation! ❤
