GIGANTIC Book UnHaul!! [ 50+ books ]

20180531_182014

I was inspired by the amazing Sam @Thought on Tomes to unhaul books! I had been thinking about doing it for a while, but she gave me the final push. Definitely check out her channel, she is one of my favourite booktubers! (Though I’m assuming you’re already familiar with her channel.)

So a few days ago I reorganised my shelf and decided to which books I wanted to get rid of. It ended up being over 50 books. Most of the books that I’m getting rid of I have already read, but there are also a few unread ones. They were just taking up space and I didn’t need them in my life, so I decided to just declutter and remove them from my life. I will explain in more detail why I’m getting rid of each book later in the post.

These are just books from the shelf I have in my dorm room. I do have another bookshelf back in my home town, which I also plan to reorganise and declutter. That’s not going to happen for a while though, as I have no idea when I will be going back home and when I will have the time to do it. I definitely plan on making a post about it like this one.

After this declutter I have 120+ books on my shelf and they are:

  • books that I have loved and consider favourites,
  • books that hold some kind of sentimental value,
  • books I know I will want to reread or just flick through in the future,
  • books I’m beyond exited to read.

Most of these books are going to charity!

A few will probably go to some friends. (I just need to contact them about that.)

A few classics to start this unhaul with.

  • Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
  • Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
  • The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinback
  • Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
  • Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespear

The only one that I haven’t read from these is The Grapes of Wrath and I really don’t plan on reading it. I got it for a class, but never ended up getting around to it (I ended up reading another book instead of it). The others I have read and they were either just okay or I hated them (Heart of Darkness). I just don’t see myself reading them again, so they are going away.

20180531_182452Next up are some Agatha Christie books in German.

  • 4:50 from Paddington
  • The Big Four
  • The A.B.C. Murders
  • The Hollow
  • Death on the Nile
  • Five Little Pigs
  • Dumb Witness
  • Evil Under the Sun
  • Hercule Poirot and the Greenshore Folly
  • Appointment with Death

I have read all of these and I enjoyed them all (some more than others). I just don’t see myself reading them again, as I already know the mystery and everything else about it, though I have kept 3 of my favourite Christie novels.

20180531_182532While we are on the topic of German books, here are four more:

  • The second and third book in the I Hunt Killers series by Barry Lyga
  • The Eon duology by Alison Goodman

I have decided to keep the first book in the I Hunt Killers trilogy, simply because it’s my favourite in the series and I adored it. For me the series went downhill and I have no desire ti keep the other two.

I read the Eon duology years ago and I can’t see myself ever picking it up again. Plus the editions don’t match, so they don’t even look good on my shelves. That’s why I decided to get rid of them.

20180531_182603

I mentioned in a previous post that I had no interest in reading any more Sarah J. Maas books. So I’m basically getting rid of them all.

The ones that I have read are:

  • Throne of Glass
  • The Assassin’s Blade

I honestly have no desire to continue the Throne of Glass series. Plus I couldn’t get into A Court of Thorns and Roses (I tried a few times), so I’m just getting rid of all of these books.

20180531_182729While we are at it, lets talk about another super popular series! That’s right, I’m getting rid of the A Song of Ice and Fire series.

I have read the first two books, but I have no desire to finish this series. Why is that?

  • It literary takes me MONTHS to finish one of these books.
  • I NEVER reach for them when picking out what to read next.
  • I don’t care what happens to any of the characters.
  • I have just lost interest in the whole series in general.
  • I don’t want to “waste” my time on them, if I ever feel like revisiting the world I can just watch the tv show.

20180531_182828Next we have the Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks.

I have read all three books and really enjoyed them, especially the first and the second one. But they are not my favourites by any means. Plus they don’t look good on my shelf, the covers and spines are horrible. (And yes, I care about that as well. To an extent that is.) I just don’t see myself rereading them either, so I’m getting rid of them as well.

UnHaulTwo very popular young adult trilogies:

  • The Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children trilogy by Ransom Riggs
  • The Legend trilogy by Marie Lu

I have read both of these trilogies and really enjoyed them. But, as much as I enjoyed/loved them I can’t see myself reaching for them again.

Honestly, these were the hardest ones for me to decide upon. I spend a lot of time thinking if I should get rid of them or not. In the end I just decided to do it and give them away.

20180531_182944The first two books in The Darkest Minds trilogy/series (I have no idea what they are considered as) by Alexandra Bracken.

Honestly I just don’t care about dystopians anymore. I used to read a ton of them and now they just don’t interest me (most of them, there are a few exceptions). Plus I haven’t heard the greatest things about this series from people I trust. I never feel like reading them and they have been sitting on my shelf for years. So it’s definitely time I got rid of them.

20180531_183034Now we are at the random books section. First of all, I have read all of these books.

  • Mr Penumbra’s 24 Hour Book Store by Robin Sloan – It was simply an okay book, I found it underwhelming and it wasn’t what I hoped it would be.
  • Joyland by Stephen King – I really enjoyed this book, but I can’t see myself ever reading it again. And it doesn’t match my other Stephen King books, which really bothers me.
  • The Fault in Our Stars by John Green – I loved this book when I read it years ago, but I have no desire to read it ever again. Plus now I have some other problems with it as well.
  • Harry Potter and the Cursed ChildLets not even get into the mess that this book is. (The only part about it that I liked is Scorpius Malfoy.)
  • Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell – It’s problematic and I don’t plan on ever rereading it. I do want to read Fangirl though, as I have heard great things about that one.

20180531_183144And the last section of random books!

  • Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro – It was just an okay read. I’m glad I read it, but I won’t be ever picking it up again.
  • The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman – Just because the edition is tiny (it’s too difficult to read). I do want to get this book in a bigger format in the future.
  • Three books from the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett – First of all, they are in Serbian and I’m too lazy to look up the English names of those books. I just enjoyed them, they weren’t my favourites.
  • City of Ashes and City of Glass by Cassandra Clare – While I do want to read the whole TMI series, I have no desire to keep these books – they are by no means favourite of mine and I can’t see myself rereading them.
  • The Maze Runner by James Dashner – I liked it, but it wasn’t my favourite (not by a long shot). I have no desire to read the rest of the series, that’s all there is to it.
  • Our Endless Numbered Days by Claire Fuller – I enjoyed this book, but it wasn’t what I expected/hoped it would be. It’s too bad that I don’t plan on ever picking it up again, as the cover for it is simply gorgeous.

AND WE ARE DONE! Those are all the books that I’m unhauling.

This post turned out to be a lot longer than I thought it would, sorry about that! Hopefully you enjoyed me rambling about the books I’m getting rid of. I’m very happy with all my decisions and my shelf looks AMAZING right now!

Do you unhaul books? Or do you keep them all? What are some of the books you unhauled? Let me know in the comments!

Thank you very much for reading and I hope that you have a wonderful day!
