Random Things About Me! || One Lovely Blog Award [#3]

I was nominated by the amazing The Orangutan Librarian for this award. Thank you once more! ❤ 🙂 Be sure to check out their blog! You are missing out if you aren’t following them!

  1. Each nominee must THANK the person who nominated them and link their blog in the post.
  2. They must include the rules and add the blog award badge as an image.
  3. Must add 7 facts about themselves and then nominate 15 people.

Seven facts about me:

1. I rarely, almost never, watch movies.

When I’m picking something to watch I always choose tv shows or anime. Movies don’t even come to my mind, even though there are many that I’m interested in checking out. I just never feel motivated to watch a movie on my own. Probably because they are a lot longer than one episode of a tv show or anime? But honestly I don’t know the exact reason. I don’t go to the cinema either, because it’s expensive and I don’t want to “waste” money on it.

shrug GIF

2. I sometimes listen to classical music while studying.

There are times when my brain wanders while I’m studying. It just feels like I can’t concentrate properly. When I’m feeling that way listening to classical music helps me. I don’t know why that is actually? Anyway, when I decide to listen to classical music and study at the same time I look up 2 hour long videos on youtube with music specifically curated for studying. (I did this today, which is why I decided to pick it as one of the facts.)

Piano GIF(For some reason I thought of this scene, which is why I added this gif! 😂)

3. I have never met an author, nor have I ever been to a bookish event.

This is something that I have definitely mentioned on my blog before. I just don’t live in a country where authors that I read come and visit. The struggle of living in a non-English speaking country. I have also never been to a bookish event, as there aren’t any near me that I’m interested in (out of the ones I know about). Plus there is the fact that I don’t have bookish friends in real life and I wouldn’t want to go to events alone. (By that I mean big events, conventions and stuff like that.)

4. I love to dance.

Dancing is something that I have loved ever since I was little. When I was very young (like 9 or a bit younger?) I was a part of a dance team and we even performed a few times, which I still remember. The only reason I stopped was because the dance group that my team was part of disbanded. That was basically all the dance classes that I ever took. Despite that I continued dancing throughout the years (on my own obviously). When I’m feeling stressed or anything like that I just need to turn on the music and dance and I end up feeling a lot better!

Dance GIF

5. I love colouring books.

I’m so happy that adult colouring books exist! Ever since I was little I adored colouring books. I vividly remember each year that my family went to Croatia I would get a new colouring book and then I would spend the entire time I was there colouring it. (Obviously when I wasn’t swimming or being on the beach.) So when I discovered adult colouring books a while ago I was beyond thrilled. I just find colouring books to be relaxing and therapeutic!

Colouring Book GIF

6. I adore bullet journaling.

Last year in December I started bullet journaling. It was a random decision that has changed my life for the better! My bullet journal isn’t too artistic or special, it’s just a place where I can keep track of the things I need to do. I love making to-do lists, so having a dedicated place for it feels amazing. My list of unread books and ARCs has also place in my bullet journal. I also have a page (beside the calendar one) where I write down all the books I read, things I watched, games I played. My bullet journal gives me a good overview of my life and that pleases me a lot!

7. I love going on walks.

This is a recent development for me. I started going on regular walks this month and I have completely loved the experience. I just want to get fitter, which is why I have decided to implement walking into my daily routine (I exercise as well, but that is beside the point). Just leaving my room regularly and walking around has been great for my mental health. I also caved and bought myself Spotify Premium, so now I can also listen to music while I’m walking. (Currently I’m mainly listening to BTS, but that isn’t anything surprising.)

Best ARC? Author I Really Want To Meet? || Real Neat Blog Award

I was nominated by the amazing Kate @Reading Through Infinity for this award. Thank you once more! ❤ 🙂 Be sure to check out her blog!

The Rules:

  • Display the award logo on your blog
  • Thank the folks who nominated you and provide links to their blogs
  • Answer the 7 questions asked by your nominator(s)
  • Nominate any number of other bloggers to share the award and give them some linky love
  • Notify the nominated folk
  • Ask the nominees 7 questions of your own

Kate’s Questions:

1. Who is currently your number one author to meet at an event?

Leigh Bardugo

I have never actually met an author. They just don’t tent to come to the places that I have lived in. And those few that do come I’m not interested in them. I get that, since I live in a non-English speaking country (but it would still be nice for authors to visit these places as well). Anyway, the author I would love to meet the most is Leigh Bardugo. She is one of my all time favourite authors and she just seems like an amazing person to meet! (Plus I would love for her to sign my collectors edition of Six of Crows.)

2. Which book do you think would work really well as a graphic novel (that hasn’t been turned into one already)?

I don’t tend to read graphic novels that adapt a book. I don’t know, they just don’t interest me all that much. Perhaps because I already know the story and what is happening? And there is no way I would be reading the graphic novel first and then then book. With that being said, I’m also not completely sure which books have been made into graphic novels. I just don’t check that kind of thing.

I think that Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin would make a good graphic novel. As far as I’m aware it hasn’t been made into one already. I just think that the action and the motorbike race could be portrayed greatly in the form of a graphic novel. Plus I think some other aspects of the book (which I don’t want to mention because of spoilers) would work great in the graphic novel format.

Ryan Graudin

3. What’s your favourite type of blog post to write and why?

My two favourite types of posts to write are tags and wrap ups. I love tags because I always find it fun to think about how to answer each question. I love wrap ups because I love reflecting on my month and that is also the place where I write about all the books I read in a month. (Plus I can always look back on a month with those posts.) Though I enjoy writing all kinds of posts, otherwise I wouldn’t be writing them. 😉

4. What is the ‘thing’ that you’re known for among friends and family?

Probably books and anime. (And not dating. Since all my relatives love asking me if I have a boyfriend and when I’ll get one.) I don’t know anyone in real life who reads as much as I do and who watches anime at all. I think the majority of my friends and family know that I’m into books and anime? The more I think about it the more unsure I get, but we shall go with it!

5. What’s the best ARC or advance copy of a book you’ve ever received?

A Curse so Dark and LonelyThe Iron TrialI only ever received eARCs, basically no physical ones. Not that I really want physical ones in the first place, I just thought I needed to mention it. When I think of the best ARC that I have ever received two come to my mind immediately.

The first one is The Iron Trial by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare. That was actually the first ARC that I ever received. That makes i very special to me, even though it isn’t actually connected to this blog (since I received it before I had created mybookishdream). The second one is A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer. This is probably my favourite ARC that I have ever read. It was just such a fantastic book and you can check out my review, if you are interested in more of my thoughts.

6. Is there a book that you went into not expecting to like, but then really enjoyed?

If I’m not expecting to like a book I don’t tend to pick it up in the first place. That is due to the fact that I buy all the books I read, so I can’t afford to buy books that I’m not expecting to like. I do plan on getting a library card soon-ish, so that might change. I did pick four books for this question that I wasn’t completely sure I was going to like. (As I still wanted to answer this question properly.)

I heard very mixed things about The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw,. I don’t often read science fiction, especially ones set in space, so The Martian by Andy Weir was an impulsive choice for me. Ernest Hemingway’s For Whom The Bell Tolls is a book that I had to read in high school, as I had to write a paper on it. Smoke Gets Into Your Eyes by Caitlin Doughty is a non-fiction, which is a genre I never read (unless it’s for university).

7. Name one fun or exciting thing you’re hoping to do in 2019.

Go on a tour in the Schönbrunn Palace. That is something that I have wanted to do for years now, but for some reason I always put it off? I honestly have no idea why. I want to see the interior of the palace and just learn more about it from the tour guide. Hopefully I’ll be able to do this relatively soon!

Do you have anything fun/exiting planned for this year? What author would you like to meet the most? Let me know in the comments below!

Thank you very much for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day!

The Mystery Blogger Award

I was nominated by the wonderful Beth @Reading Every Night for this award. Thank you once more! ❤ 🙂 Be sure to check out her blog! Beth is one of the friendliest people I know and her blog is simply amazing. You’re missing out if you aren’t following her!

This award was originally created by Okoto @Okoto Enigma’s Blog.

“Mystery Blogger Award” is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion.

  • Put the award logo/image on your blog.
  • List the rules.
  • Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Mention the creator of the award and provide a link to their blog as well.
  • Tell your readers three things about yourself.
  • Answer questions of nominator.
  • Nominate 10-20 people.
  • Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question.
  • Share your link to your best post(s).

Three facts about me:

  1. I don’t have a middle name.
  2. I have just graduated from university.
  3. I hate group projects, they are the worst.

Beth’s Questions:

1. Are there any tropes in books that you go out of your way to avoid, what are they?

The only one that comes to my mind is love triangles. They can be done well, but that is a very rare case. When I find out a book has a love triangle I’m much more reluctant to read it. I need to find out what other people think of how the trope was handled and most of the time their opinion isn’t positive. So I stay away from those books. I don’t think I have any other tropes that I avoid, as I’m willing to give them all a try. (Or at least no other trope is coming to my mind right now.)

shrug GIF

2. If you could take the place of one book character, and live out their role in said book, who would you choose and why?

This is a very hard question. Most of the characters that come to my mind right now I really wouldn’t want to take their place, mostly because they have very hard and dangerous lives. (It comes with the territory of reading mostly fantasy.) I think I would have to go with Elizabeth Bennet. She is one of my all time favourite female protagonists, plus there wouldn’t be danger of me dying by just being that character. Basically I could handle her life, which is why I’m picking her.

3. Money is no object and you can travel anywhere in the world (the real world, not the fictional one) where would you go first?

In the real world that would be Tokyo, or Japan in general. Because if (and that is a very strong if) I ever have the opportunity to go to Japan I would love visiting a few different cities. Japan is one of those places that I have wanted to visit for years, so hopefully I’ll be able to do that in the future. (Though who knows, it’s a big and costly trip.)

Tokyo GIF

4. If you could meet on author, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?

I have actually never met an author before. They just don’t come to the places that I live (hopefully they will in the future). I think the author that I would most like to meet is Victoria Schwab (Leigh Bardugo is a close second). She is one of my all time favourite authors, so obviously I would like to meet her. Plus she seems really nice from the interviews that I have seen and I have heard that other people enjoyed meeting her.

Victoria Schwab

5. FUN/WEIRD Question: Would you rather never be able to go back and read or re-read anything by your favourite authors, or never be able to discover any new authors?

I would have to go with “never be able to discover any new authors“. I’ll still be able to reread my favourite books (as they tend to be by my favourite authors) and any new book that one of my favourite authors publishes in the future. Though this is a really hard question to answer, as there are so many authors that I want to read from. But I’m sticking with my answer! Or am I? I’m still debating with myself. Being indecisive in these situations is the worst! (Am I exaggerating? Most definitely yes.)

eye roll gif

My best blog posts:

This is a question that I find impossible to answer. So far I have posted over 330 posts on my blog. How in the world am I meant to chose the best one?! Plus, how does one measure the best post? Is it because it’s the most viewed, the most interacted with? The one that I’m most proud of? It doesn’t help that I’m indecisive when it comes to things like this.

Instead, here are some of my favourite posts from this year (well, so far as it is only the end of February):

Thank you very much for reading and I hope that you have a wonderful day!

The Versatile Blogger Award [#4]

I was nominated by Sara @The Paperback Pilgrim and Meghan @Meghan’s Whimsical Explorations & Reviews for this award. Thank you both once more! ❤ 😀 Be sure to check out both of their blogs!

This is actually the 4th time that I’m doing this award. I hadn’t realised that I had done it three times before (probably because it’s been years since I did them). So if you are interested in more facts about me, you can check out my first, second and third Versatile Blogger Award.

The Rules:
  • Show the award on your blog
  • Thank the person that has nominated you.
  • Share 7 different facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 15 blogs of your choice.
  • Link your nominees and let them know of your nomination.

1. The song that I’m obsessed with at the moment is Prophecy of Ragnarok by Brothers of Metal.

My best friend showed me this song a while ago and lately I have been listening to it nonstop. Maybe because I’m reading Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard at the moment, so the song is kind of fitting?

Brothers of Metal

 2. I’m keeping a bullet journal and a diary.

My bullet journal helps me be organised, plus I have a great overview of what I do each month. I also very much enjoy writing down my thoughts in my diary, sometimes I just need to vent and my diary is the perfect place for that.

3. I have started wearing multiple rings on both of my hands.

I always loved how multiple rings looked on other people, but I never felt like I could wear them as well. Mostly because I wasn’t used to waring any rings. Then one day I just decided to start trying to wear some, to get used to them. And now I’m loving them! (Though I don’t wear them as often as I would like, as they can be bothersome when it’s too cold outside.)

Lord of the Rings GIF
(I had to pick this gif, when talking about rings!)

4. I’m obsessed with nail polish.

I love when my nails are painted! I love the process of doing it, I find it very relaxing. I always watch youtube videos while doing it (which does make it even more relaxing). I also love how my nails look once they are painted. I mostly paint my nails black, but also other colours – it all really depends on my mood.

Nail polish GIF

5. I like to do things on my own.

Whenever I feel like doing something – going to the museum, to the cinema, shopping or just going out to the city – I enjoy doing it on my own. Like I don’t feel the need to have friends go with me. If I want to go somewhere I usually go on my own. I don’t know if that’s weird or not, I just enjoy spending time on my own.

Shrug GIF

6. I’m not good at making friends and keeping friendships.

Online I feel like I’m annoying people if I message them a lot. Or I don’t start conversations because I don’t want to bother someone, even though I would love to talk to them. Then I feel as if I’m too boring, as I don’t know what exactly to talk about. In real life I’m bad with keeping up with people. I feel as if the people I know wouldn’t want to hear from me. I only have my best friend, who I talk to a lot.

(I’m thinking about writing a full post on this topic, as I have more to say than this, but we shall see.)

Exhausted GIF

7. I have already read 14 books this year.

My reading has been amazing for the past few months! I have been reading a lot, especially compared to the past two years (or something close to that). It’s true that some of the books that I have read so far this year have been short stories, but still. I have been reading so much lately and I couldn’t be happier!

The Entertainer Blogger Award

I was nominated by two wonderful bloggers for this award. They were Ella Emilia @A Book Without End and Beth @Reading Every Night. Thank you both once more!! ❤ 😀 Be sure to check out their blogs, they are both amazing and you’re missing out if you aren’t following them!

The Rules:
  • Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Add these rules to your post.
  • Answer all the questions below.
  • Display the award picture in your post.
  • Nominate 12 other bloggers who are funny, inspiring and most important of all ENTERTAINING!

Why did you start a blog in the first place?

I started my blog because I wanted to talk about the books I read. In real life I don’t have friends that read. (Well, aside from my best friend but she only reads classics.) So I had no one to discuss books with and that was something I wanted to do. I also wanted to write down my thoughts on books that I read, so that I could look back at them later. A blog seemed perfect for that, so I decided to start one. (I actually wanted to do booktube at first, but I don’t feel comfortable with being in front of the camera.)

What is your favourite book?

You want me to pick up just one? That’s impossible!! (Seriously, I can’t just have one favourite book.) Here are only a few that I consider my favourites:

What do you dislike the most?

When it comes to bookish things I dislike cover changes in the middle of the series the most. They frustrate me, because I love my books to match and they look a lot prettier on the shelf when they match. I would love for the spines of the books to match at least, if the cover change has to happen. (Though there are some good cover changes out there as well.) When it comes to regular things I dislike bigotry the most. Bigotry is simply unacceptable and bigots make me so angry.

giphy (1)

What is your favourite food at the mall?

Pizza, it’s definitely pizza. I don’t have a preferred pizza chain (do you call it that? I don’t even know), I will eat from whatever store – I really don’t care. It really isn’t the healthiest food that I could choose, but I love it and don’t have it often so it’s fine (or that’s what I’m telling myself).

What is your favourite past time?

Reading is quiet the obvious one (if for whatever reason you couldn’t guess by my blog). Aside from that I also love drawing and painting, it simply relaxes me and I love the creative process of it. (Sadly I haven’t had the time to paint lately, I really miss it.) Of course I love doing many other things as well.

What is your favourite food at the mall? What do you love doing in your free time? Let me know in the comments!

Thank you very much for reading my review and I hope that you have a wonderful day!

The Unique Blogger Award! [#2]

I was nominated by the amazing Aria @Snow White Hates Apples for this award. Thank you once more!! ❤ 😀 Be sure to check out her blog, you’re seriously missing out if you aren’t following her!

  • Share the link of the blogger who has shown love to you by nominating you.
  • Answer the questions.
  • In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 8-13 people for the same award.
  • Ask them three questions.

1. If you could turn a song into a book, which would it be?

I would love for Hail To The King by Avenged Sevenfold to be turned into a book. I have a feeling that it would turn into a very dark fantasy book (which I would love to read). To be honest, I would love for any Avenged Sevenfold song to be turned into a book. They would make such amazing dark stories (from horror to fantasy).

2. Favourite Christmassy book?

A Christmas Carol

My favourite Christmassy book is one of the classic Christmas stories. Quiet obviously I’m talkig about A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens (as you could have guessed by the picture).

I used to watch the movie adaptation of this book every Christmas when I was little (or a few of the adaptations that is, as there are many out there), so this story represents Christmas to me. When I was in high school I started reading the book every Christmas as well, which even more solidified this being my favourite Christmas story.

I obviously love this story, otherwise I wouldn’t have watched/read it so many times.

3. Something from a fictional world that you’d like to bring to your reality?

I would love to have a Time Turner from the Harry Potter series. I’m always in the need of a little more time, especially lately as I have been very busy, so a Time Turner would save my life, or at least make it a little bit easier. (I’m sure a lot of people would agree with my choice.)

The Black Cat Blue Sea Award

AwardI was nominated for this award by the lovely Azia @The Uncharted Word. Thank you once more! ❤ 🙂 Be sure to check out her blog!!

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Answer the 3 questions posed by the nominator
  • Nominate up to 8 other bloggers and provide them with your own 3 questions
  • If any of the questions asked are offensive or the nominee simply does not want to answer, the nominee does not have to answer them to earn the award

This award is for bloggers who strive to write for everybody, and no matter how many viewers they get, make an impact on a reader. This award is an expression of gratitude to the nominee. It should be awarded to anybody that you choose deserves it, and it doesn’t mean that they must have hundreds of followers and likes.

1. What’s the longest time you’ve gone without reading?

I was a really big reader when I was a child. But from the ages of 11 till I was around 15 I barely read any books, aside from those that I had to read as assigned reading for school. Those four years I got into anime and gaming, reading just wasn’t something I was interested in at that time. (Though I did read some manga here and there as well, but I’m not really counting that.) That was definitely the longest time that I have gone without reading in my life.

Now I go without reading for a week or two at the most. That’s only when I’m too busy with university (or life in general) or I just don’t feel like reading.

shrug GIF

2. How do you arrange your bookshelves? And if you don’t have proper bookshelves, what would your dream shelves look like?

I currently only have one bookshelf that’s waaaay too packed. I have to double-stack quiet a few books. So I’m not really able to arrange all the books the way I want to. (That’s the down side of living in a dorm room and not having the space.) There are some ways that I usually arrange my shelves and that’s the way I tried to do it with my current one as well:

  • Books by the same author next to each other. I just like having them all in one place and when I’m looking for some books it’s easier to find. Plus it means that all my series are nicely organised and together.
  • By genre. I just like my books to be organised that way. I keep all my fantasy and science fiction books near each other. The same goes with my mystery books, classics and the few contemporaries that I own.

3. Is there an extreme sport (i.e. skydiving, snowboarding, gliding) you like to do or would like to do?

There isn’t an extreme sport that I have ever done. I probably should never do one either, since I’m rather clumsy and have a feeling that I would hurt myself very easily. The one I’m most likely to do is skydiving, probably because I would love to jump out of a plane and feel the fall. Though there is the fact that I’m kind of afraid of heights, so I honestly have no idea why this one is the most interesting one to me!

Plane Sky GIF

I nominate:

(As always, if you don’t feel like doing this award feel free to ignore it. No pressure!)

My questions:

  1. What are some of your favourite TV shows and why do you love them?
  2. What makes you start reading a book and what makes you stop?
  3. If you won the lottery what’s the first thing you’d do with your winnings?

How do you organise your shelves? Is there an extreme sport that you would like to do? Let me know in the comments!

Thank you very much for reading and I hope that you have a wonderful day!
